Introduction

CBD Plus is a full-spectrum extract of naturally occurring Cannabidiol (CBD) from the hemp plant. In contrast to the psychoactive THC compound, CBD is non-intoxicating and renders a myriad of benefits which range from systemic anti-inflammatory effects to anxiety relief. Paradoxically, CBD has even been employed in the treatment of diseases which manifest psychosis, such as dementia and schizophrenia [1, 2].

CBD also boasts potent antioxidant activity – even more so than over the counter supplements and naturally occurring compounds like Vitamin C and E! It sweeps up free radicals (also known as reactive oxidative species) which have been implicated in a plethora of chronic degenerative and inflammatory diseases like Alzheimer’s disease, atherosclerosis, and acne [3, 4].

Unlike other CBD extracts on the market, Ananda CBD products, like the CBD Plus, uses a full spectrum extracted CBD paste. Although it is primarily comprised of CBD, other cannabinoids are present within the paste, many of which have roles that have yet to be defined by molecular researchers.  The reason being there are upwards of 400 cannabinoids that have been identified. Despite the ambiguity of many cannabinoids, cannabinoids work synergistically together, which gives our consumers the benefit of the whole plant as opposed to just one compound out of 400.

CBD Plus – Added Value

CBD Plus contains the additional value in the form of 3 core ingredients – hemp essential oil, black cumin CO2 extract and medium-chain triglyceride (MCT) coconut oil, also known as fractionated coconut oil.

Hemp essential oil is a complex which is comprised of abundantly beneficial compounds (known as terpenes) such as limonene, terpinolene, and caryophyllene – these have been extensively studied and confer relaxant and anti-microbial effects on the user [5]. Indeed, these compounds have exhibited antimicrobial effects against “superbugs” such as Enterococcus faecium and Clostridium botulinum – that are known to cause bacterial infections like meningitis and botulism. An additional benefit that is extremely relevant today in view of the multi-drug resistant bacteria crisis that has emerged because of rampant antibiotic abuse [6].

Black cumin (also known as Nigella sativa) contains thymoquinine which has been used traditionally to treat chronic inflammatory diseases, for example, asthma, eczema, and bronchitis. Black cumin has been extensively studied in view of its analgesic (pain-relieving) and anti-inflammatory activity [7]. Furthermore, it has been shown to have antimicrobial and hepatoprotective (liver protecting) properties in several clinical trials. One review in 2017 concluded that black cumin’s “hypoglycemic, hypolipidemic and bronchodilatory effects, have been sufficiently studied and are sufficiently understood to allow for the next phase of clinical trials or drug developments” [8].

Lastly, MCT coconut oil was hand-picked by our founder, Eric Cech, in all Ananda CBD formulations as a base due to the multifaceted health benefits it boasts. MCT coconut oil has shown systemic cardiovascular benefits in the form of its lipid-lowering effects (like cholesterol and triglycerides). This is extremely relevant for patients who have documented coronary heart disease, peripheral arterial disease or even elevated levels of cholesterol (hyperlipidemia). Even in healthy users, MCT coconut oil has shown improved metabolism and exercise endurance [7]. Although most studies have been conducted in regard to the oral ingestion of MCT coconut oil, it would not be unreasonable to assume that MCT would bestow the same benefits over time [9].

Conclusion

CBD Plus has been deliberately designed to include 4 potent ingredients – full spectrum CBD extract, hemp essential oil, black cumin CO2 and MCT coconut oil in order to maximize the overall benefits of the product. The harmonious marriage of the anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective and hepatoprotective effects of CBD Plus will certainly be a tangible “plus” to your life, and the lives of your loved ones.

Working Together: Cannabidiol and Our Endo-Cannabinoid System

The endo-cannabinoid system (ECS) is our body’s own, natural, internal structure which both produces, and receives the effects of, endogenous cannabinoids. CBD is a phyto-cannabinoid, that works directly upon our endo-cannbinoid system. Say what??? Well, we find the language a little obtuse as well… Endogenous Cannabinoids: We Make Them! ‘Endogenous’ (or ‘endo’) is defined as […]
